Bols loved it! Good   –  One of the more tragic aspects of Prohibition was known as the “Jake Walk”— a peculiar, stiff-legged gait that afflicted people who had been drinking Jamaica Ginger, an alcohol-based patent medicine that turned out to have been contaminated with a neurotoxin as a result of the efforts made by the shady characters who were marketing it to come up with a formula that would get by the Dry authorities.

JakeWalk is dedicated to celebrating our good fortune to live in an age where we need never resort to drinking patent medicines to give us a little lift after a hard day’s work; where we’ve got more good things to drink—fine wines, old whiskies, craft ales and the like—than ever before, if we just know where to look for them. Here, at least, you will find some of them.

A helpful staff effortlessly rattles off options for three-year old cheddars, and gives guidance on their 40 cheeses, organized by playful groupings like “Soft and Stinky” and “Firm, Old and Bold”.

Bols loved it! Good   –  Interestingly, the cocktail list focuses on pre-Prohibition recipes—milder drinks meant to evoke a time when the emphasis was on “enjoyment instead of getting hammered.”
